Sunday 21 April, the art project ”Phygital Street Art” will be inaugurated on Atracta’s LED screen at Katarinahissen. When the graduating students at HDK Valand lost their location for the exhibition in Gothenburg, their eyes turned to Stockholm.
Since 1925, graduating students from HDK Valand has exhibited their graduation projects at Gothenburg’s Konsthall. However, this year, the students lost their venue. The art gallery will move from Avenyn to Slakthuset. Karen Froede, one of the graduating students in Gothenburg, came up with the idea to show the works in Stockholm instead.
– I live in Stockholm, so when the opportunity no longer existed in Gothenburg, I thought about alternative ways to reach as many people as possible. I have seen art on the screens before so I decided to contact Atracta and tell them about my idea. And now Katarinahissen becomes a way for the public to take part in fresh contemporary works. We are very grateful for this, says Karen Froede.
April 21, ”Phygital Street Art” presents Karen Froede’s work ”The Baroque Parallel” and Corina Oancea’s work ”Multiciplies of Mothering” from 13-17. At the same time as the works are displayed at Katarinahissen, there is an opportunity to meet the artists on Södermalmstorg, since the works of art invite dialogue with anyone interested.
– We always invite new ways of thinking and of course we want to help the students to exhibit their art. We previously had art on our screens together with Stockholm Stad, says Johan Forssell, marketing manager at Atracta.
The project is a collaboration between 15 artists, HDK Valand and Atracta and can be seen from 21 April to 5 May.
